Staff update! Congratulations and thanks Sara and Akiro!
Written by: Flumens on June 30, 2009

We've decided to add some needed new blood to our staff. I'm pleased to announce that both Sara and Akiro have been chosen to become our newest Event Coordinators! They've both been active, dedicated players for some time and they deserve the recognition.

Look forward to their events in the coming days and weeks, and thank them for their willingness to help out.

Thanks Sara and Akiro!

Latest Update Follies
Written by: Flumens on May 7, 2009

Okay, so good news/bad news situation...

The bad news:

The planned update had a critical bug that was not detected on my development machine and in fact cannot be reproduced on my development machine. We've switched back to the pre-update server software and we'll be running that until it's fixed.

The good news:

This update includes a new ranking system! Instead of the old, tired experience-based ranking system, I'm pleased to introduce our Title Track accomplishment system! This system can be used to track any number of game statistics ranging from some fairly standard ones such as kill count and pvp kill count to total play time to quirky things like total number of marriages or divorces. The plan is to add a fair number of titles that appeal to both hardcore monster grinders and the more social RO players. To display any title you have, as well as your current score in that title track, you can simply type "@disptitle number". It will replace your guild name and title with the corresponding accomplishment title. If you're not in a guild, you can still display a title and your score. You will be able to show off your titles in game in this manner, but we will also add a tracking system to the website so that you can view leaders and your own personal scores conveniently.

I'll post screenshots of the system running on my home test server in a few minutes. Once the last bug is worked out and we implement it, I'll post a more indepth explanation.

Thanks to Baka and Lira with their help in trying to isolate and identify this mysterious bug. Hopefully a solution will be found promptly.

Account recovery and the new website
Written by: cmd-keen on April 25, 2009

The background systems of the new website have been working for a while now, and they seem stable, so altho the design is [i:4403e]still[/i:4403e] missing it's now opened for testing, as it has some tools that will probably come in handy, especialy an automated account recovery!

Small Delay to Small Update & New Stand Alone
Written by: Flumens on April 7, 2009

I've uploaded a new stand alone installer to the ShadowRO website. If you've been having trouble updating either sakray or shadowRO, the stand alone is fully up to date as of April 7, 2009. The stand alone is a great option for new players and for old players that need to reinstall a like. One minor issue: I forgot to add an icon (image) to the installer, so it just shows up as an ugly box. This is purely cosmetic so I didn't bother to fix it. If you have any bugs or issues with the installer, please let me know, ideally through the mantis bug tracker which can be easily accessed through the forums.

On to the update:

I had a few unexpected hiccups, but the update is very close to ready. I'm going to try to sneak in a few more bug fixes yet too, so expect it in a day or two. This is a very minor update, so don't get too excited. It's mostly bug fixes. We are, however, updating our eAthena again. I haven't checked the change list to look at each change as I don't expect too many new and exciting things. I might try to sneak in one surprise for the update, but it's a busy week as final exams are nearly upon me.

Two final notes:
The ShadowRO only installation should also be updated in the next few days.

And lastly, I'm still looking at getting a new client that has more/new features. However, we use a special client that can only be obtained from one source as things currently stand, so I'm pretty much just waiting with no control over when this might be.

Rules and respect towards the GM team
Written by: cmd-keen on March 9, 2009

As those who know me or have had to deal with me through my position as GM know, I'm usually lax with rules and rather warn twice before jailing once, but there is one thing going on right now I will not accept: GM Disrespect.

A GMs decision is final, period.

If you have been handed a punishment by a GM, you are free to try to appeal to the GM in question to change their sentence, whether successful or not, the issue is to be dealt with by this one GM and this one GM alone, taking the issue to a different GM is disrespecting the authority of the one giving out the punishment, and will be dealt with according to the rules.

Contrary to popular belief there is no heirarchy among the GMs when it comes to rule enforcing, and thus taking it to an admin after having been handed punishment by a GM is not like going to the next higher instance after having been sentenced in court, its pure disrespect towards the GM in question.

If you have trouble seeing things from the perspective of a GM, you are always free to bring up a matter with me, I will discuss the issue with you and give you my own opinion which might or might not differ from the GM in question, however this is to be seen as my own opinion, and in no way a command to the GM in question to change his/her decision, you are free to discuss the matter with the GM using new arguments and insights found in the discussion with me
BUT
If you try to use this discussion as a form of 'Baka said you have to ...' or 'Baka thinks that ...' it becomes a way to pressure the GM and will be treated as what it is: GM disrespect.

The GM Team works for the players to keep the server enjoyable and chances fair among the population, we do so on our free time receiving no compensation, our gain is the fun of the Players as well as our own fun, if GM work becomes a burden to the team because players disrespect certain GMs by trying to have their judgement 'overruled' by another then I as the one who rather warns twice than jails once will not hesitate to hand out temporary and permanent bans.

As a reminder of the rules regarding the issue which brought this up, going autotrading on one account and then logging another falls under double clienting, and is punished accordingly. One Character online per person at a time, period.

ShadowRO TeamSpeak Server
Written by: Flumens on February 22, 2009

We used to have a TS server set up awhile ago, and to be honest I'm not sure what happened to it...

But all that is changed! We have a new TS server set up to encourage voice chatting between our players. Whether you're partying and need your own channel or you just want to be social, you can easily communicate with the people of ShadowRO.

The server is open for general use and can be accessed at http://www.shadowro.com. You must first download the TeamSpeak client from the TeamSpeak website. Google "TeamSpeak" to find a download link.

Please remember that the forum and game rules also apply to the TeamSpeak server! Inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated and will be punished accordingly.

Biolabs dungeon level 3 is off limits until further notice for buggy behavior of the monsters in there.

The road to the future
Written by: cmd-keen on November 29, 2008

We are at a changing point, and there lies a lot of work ahead of us.
Work for us from the team, and for you as players as well!

First of all, I ask you all to get along.
I am aware that fights are necesary between persons, it is part
of being a community, but let me remind you that asking for GM
intervention is for when both sides cannot find a sollution themselves.

What I am asking is that you do not let fights get out of hand to these
points.
Leave the guildhatred on the battlefield and the fights in the pvpgrounds.
Giving in is not a sign of weakness, its a sign of strength.

Now to the propably most crucial point currently, wipe or no wipe?
At this point, we will take all humanly possible measures to make the Server be fun once again,
our hope is that a happy community that has fun will project the positive feeling outwards and
especialy towards new players and thus will get us a bigger population once again.

However, if this should fail and we do not grow once again even after straightening things out
simply because the server is old, then a wipe will happen.

What the Devteam will be working on:
1) House System
Near future goals:
- Better pricing
- more housing
- more "houselike" feel
- previous 'rental' npcs will be moved to be available to the public in the central buildings of prontera
Far off goals:
- it would be neat if the house warped you outside to a -neighborhood - of a sort and you could somewhat customize your house features (furniture/gardens/etc.)
For the near future this neighborhood will be prontera.

2) Website development
- New Layout
- New website system
- Fanart section
Once this is done the website will no longer just be a place to register and go to the forums from, it will be an up to date place to
get information about what is going on.

3) Minigames
- Peco breeding game

4) Finish Guardian Weapons
- This will be the main work ground for everyone recruited as scripter for the dev team.

5) New things
(Q and E) have their own special projects :) including fixing the donation item sprites.

6) eA updates
Depending on the severity of updates on the eAthena side we will try to update every weekend or every 2nd weekend.

7) Balancing adjustments
The game has become harder in a lot of aspects since the old days, in order to close the gap between old and new players
we will adjust some of the more drastic balancing issues.
- fix Monsterskills hitting through pneuma: with the way skills are hitting through pneuma it is next to impossible for even big parties to
do certain places like biolabs, as they will be thrown out of pneuma by charge arrow, usualy leading to the obliteration of the party
- fix Monster behaviour on empty maps: While maps are empty mobs will randomly teleport at a rapid pace, making it often impossible to even enter
hard places such as biolabs as by the time you secured your entrance by hit and run new monsters will show up there.

8 ) Fix to server description and advertising the server
once we are ready.

Things the Server can help with:

1) GW Storys
2) Website development
3) More loading screen packs
4) More custom palets
5) Participate in events when they are held

Big Thanks to Kaypha for making this list despite being on vacation!
And also thanks to everyone for your support, I trust we can bring this Server back to the fun place it once was!

This list might be amended in conclusion of the Townhall meeting.
